Onondaga Community College, Syracuse, NY, 2007 Astro turf, concrete, steel, and Japanese maple, 8 feet in diameter x 4 feet
Bloom is installed on the academic quad of Onondaga
Community College. Sycamores and locust trees
punctuate the gently sloping green space. Bloom
becomes both the focal point and a destination in the
walk across the quad. Situated along the northeast
slope in the shadow of the trees, Bloom provides a
place for gathering. The concrete bubble serves as a
bench while the bulbous petals of astro turf seep out
into the grass, offering themselves as playful pillows.
